Low Carbon Management

Low Carbon UK - Low Carbon Management

Low Carbon UK is a leading UK provider of energy, carbon and sustainability solutions for private and public sector organisations. Low Carbon UK and its dedicated team of CIBSE certified Low Carbon Consultants and Energy Assessors have a depth of knowledge which will provide you with expert advice, not only on the current performance of your building but on how to improve performance in the future. Our consultants:

  • Will produce tailored reports to help you cut the energy costs and carbon emissions of your buildings
  • Have excellent understanding of energy management and assessment
  • Provide recommendations based on sound knowledge of what works in practice, which enables you to take simple, low cost steps towards saving energy and reducing waste
Sustainability Development Management Plans - UK Government policy currently recommends that commercial businesses and public organisations introduce Sustainability Development Management Plans. We have successfully supported a number of clients in developing and writing their plans through to gaining Board approval and, we have been retained by a number of our clients to project manage the Sustainable Development Action Plan around the key themes of:
  • Energy
  • Transport
  • Waste
  • Procurement
We would welcome the opportunity to discuss your specific requirements and explain how we could help you and your organisation comply with best practice covering the following areas:

Statutory Air Conditioning Inspections - The Air Conditioning Inspection is a mandatory requirement. There are 2 types of inspection, a simple inspection and a complex inspection. The type of inspection required depends on the type of air conditioning equipment installed within the building. The inspection comprises of an on-site survey followed by a written report. The report remains valid for a period of 5 years. The Air Conditioning Inspection must be carried out by an accredited Air Conditioning Inspector in accordance with CIBSE TM44 and logged in a national register with a unique reference number.

Statutory Display Energy Certificates (DEC’s) and Advisory Reports (AR’s) - The Display Energy Certificate and Advisory Report are both mandatory requirements. Display Energy Certificates provide an energy rating of a building from A to G, where A is very efficient and G is the least efficient. These ratings are based on the actual amount of metered energy used by a building over a period of 12 months. The DEC should be A3 in size and must be clearly displayed in a place clearly visible to the public. The DEC is valid for a period of 12 months. Occupiers of buildings that require DEC’s must have a valid Advisory Report in their possession or control. An Advisory Report highlights recommendations to improve the energy performance of the building. The Advisory Report is valid for a period of 7 years.

Statutory F- Gas inspections and survey reports - Compliance with F Gas Regulations is a mandatory requirement. F-Gas Regulations require that operators of stationary refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pump equipment be inspected, installed, maintained, and serviced in accordance with the regulations for systems containing fluorinated gas and ozone depleting substances (ODS). F-Gas Regulations require systems containing 3kg or more be inspected at least every 12 months.

Contract Energy Management - Suitable for Clients that do not have an Energy Manager or require additional support for their existing staff. An Energy Manager can undertake and identify the Clients lawful obligations and develop a strategy implementing a cost effective on-going Energy Management Policy, without the need or resource of a full time Energy Manager.

Energy Conservation – An audit will be undertaken on each site to identify areas where savings can be achieved. Where potential savings are identified recommendations for further investigation will be detailed and budget costs provided. Areas of focus within this review include but are not limited to;

  • Lighting and Small Power
  • Steam and Hot Water Generation
  • Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning systems
  • Energy Distribution Systems
  • Building BMS controls
  • Water Conservation

For each initiative identified we will present a costed solution with potential pay-back periods and if required, we can provide full project management support from identification through to implementation. Our hands on approach using calibrated instrumentation will enable better identification of achievable savings compared to theoretical analysis. This is due to analysis being conducted on actual data rather than estimations.

CHP and Renewable Technologies - During our site audits we investigate the potential opportunities for CHP and renewable technologies to include micro and full scale CHP schemes as well as wind, solar, geothermal, and biomass. We will also advise on available grants that will assist with this type of investment and significantly reduce investment pay-back periods.

CRC Advice - The Carbon Reduction Commitment Energy Efficiency Scheme (CRC) is one of the tools implemented by the Government that will help the UK minimise carbon emissions, whilst ensuring that we have access to clean and affordable energy for years to come. CRC will address these issues in two main ways:

  • Lighting and Small PowerCharging organisations on the carbon emissions that result from their energy use
  • Putting the environmental performance of organisations in the public eye, by publishing the performance of all those covered by the scheme in a league table
Low Carbon UK can offer a complete solution, our services range from compliance only to a fully outsourced CRC solution. This solution includes management of data, legal compliance, maintaining your evidence pack and any CRC reporting obligations for the full duration of the introductory phase.
