Gerry Kassab - Executive Director

Gerry Kassab is one of the founders of this Consultancy with over eight years commercial consulting experience and 14 years NHS experience across a broad range of management disciplines.

After graduating from university with a degree in industrial technology and management, he joined Allied Lyons. After four years, encompassing many interesting and innovative projects, he left to travel and see the world as a freelance consultant – working in Bermuda, the Middle East and Europe.

On returning to the UK he acted as a freelance consultant, primarily delivering outsourcing solutions and undertaking efficiency and business process re-engineering reviews for blue-chip companies within banking, manufacturing, utilities and the public sector.

Gerry's introduction to the healthcare sector was in 1987, when he undertook efficiency and process reviews to support competitive tendering of facilities management services. Since then Gerry has continued to maintain a strong professional interest and personal affinity for staff development and change and performance issues facing the NHS.

Over the past seven years Gerry has focused Green & Kassab principally to assist healthcare organisations with the management of change in both clinical and non-clinical areas – in particular, developing significant expertise in the field of integration and re-profiling of services, improving service productivity and achieving financial balance.

Charles Simmons - Executive Director

After graduating from University in 1986, Charles was recruited as a NHS Management Trainee for the South East Thames Regional Health Authority. In 1988, Charles left the employ of the NHS to become a partner for a firm of independent Management Consultants specialising in the NHS. In 1996, Charles joined Green & Kassab as a Senior Partner.

Charles is best known for his work on cost improvement. Over the last 20 years, he has led over 30 major cost improvement projects that have delivered real tangible savings in excess of £65M. Charles and his team have delivered savings solutions across all clinical and non-clinical services and have investigated internal themes such as leadership, planning, resources, processes, patient needs and outcomes.

In addition, Charles has been responsible for over 800 other consultancy assignments in the last 20 years, projects which have focused on a range of issues including quality improvement, business process re-design, performance improvement, income generation and marketing. Additionally, Charles has managed a number of major service re-configuration projects and business cases as well as a number of dedicated service reviews, procurement exercises, option appraisals and project management exercises.

Charles has spent the majority of the last 20 years working across the NHS covering all aspects of the service, including medical, nursing, AHP, support services and corporate functions in the acute, mental health and primary care sectors. However, Charles has also undertaken projects for clients in the commercial sector, government agencies and the voluntary sector.

Within Green & Kassab Ltd, Charles is the Director responsible for quality and finance. He was responsible for ensuring our accreditation under ISO9001 and is particularly proud of our 98.5% project client satisfaction rate that we have achieved for our work across the board.


Doug Bailey - Chief Executive

Doug had over 26 years’ experience as a healthcare manager before joining Green & Kassab in late 2004. Doug is also a fully accredited PRINCE2 practitioner, with an excellent track record of applying a broad range of business management skills across a diverse range of health-related services, in both acute and primary care settings.

He has previously held senior positions within the NHS, including director of operations and programme director for a countywide strategic review and redesign of clinical services.

Doug has a comprehensive strategic understanding of the complexities of modern-day healthcare provision, and this is coupled with his strong operational experience and expertise.

Doug leads our Green & Kassab consultancy projects and manages the training assignments.


Darren Jones - Managing Director of Low Carbon UK

Darren Jones B.Sc. (Hons) Eng Tech. LCIBSE is Low Carbon UK’s Managing Director and provides consultancy support to Green & Kassab Group.

Holding a B.Sc. in Energy and Environmental Engineering and as a CIBSE Low Carbon Consultant, he tutors for CIBSE running the UK TM44 Air Conditioning Inspection courses. He was the first Accredited Air Conditioning Inspector in the UK and is also a DEC Low Carbon Energy Assessor.

With extensive experience in Energy Audits for Hospitals and International clients, Darren has been instrumental in improving energy efficiency and reducing carbon footprint for many government and commercial organizations, particularly by extending the air conditioning inspections into a fully intrusive survey to identify real benefits, including environmental strategic issues where required.

Darren has recently won the national Low Carbon Energy Assessor – EPC of the year award 2010.

Martin Bolding - Senior Consultant

Martin is an experienced project manager and consultant, with particular expertise in the use of information technology to deliver business advantage.

Martin holds a BSc from Imperial College and an MBA from Henley Management College. Since joining Green & Kassab in 2004, Martin has undertaken a wide range of projects, including Strategic Reviews, Benchmarking, Quality Management, Value Testing and Market Testing of multi-million pound contracts. He has delivered financial savings to many of our clients, in one case delivering in excess of £150,000 annual savings on a £1m contract.


Bryce Paling - Head of Recruitment Services

Bryce joined Green & Kassab in November 2008. Bryce has some 30 years experience working in both the private and public sectors covering various specific industries such as Engineering, Banking and Education as well as experience with various commercial small and medium size enterprises.

Consultancy projects undertaken have focused on improving the efficiency, effectiveness and economics of these organisations as well as realigning organisational belief systems, boundary systems, interactive control systems and diagnostic systems.

Specific long-term projects have included the design and integration of IT systems for a public sector organisation as well as identifying strategic and operational issues for private companies covering various commercial threats.

Since being with Green & Kassab Bryce has undertaken consultancy work within NHS Trusts as well as supporting Green & Kassab’s growth through marketing initiatives.

In November 2009 Bryce became Head of Recruitment Services taking on responsibility for the Recruitment Division that provides Interim Managers covering health and non-health roles to both the Public and Non-Public Sectors.

Bryce holds an MBA recognised by AMBA as well as Graduate and Post Graduate Diplomas in Management through the Chartered Management Institute and Institute of Management Consultants.


Tania Barrow - Recruitment Consultant

Tania joined Green & Kassab in 1999, after 10 years working in sales and marketing. Tania worked in a supporting administration role within Green and Kassab which enabled her to gain a wealth of experience and understanding of the requirements and demands of the modern NHS.

In September 2006 Tania transferred to the Interim and Permanent Recruitment Sector of Green & Kassab, which has enabled her to utilise her strong sales and marketing background to source middle/senior executive managers.


Dipak Duggal - Senior Pharmacy Consultant

Dipak is a highly experienced Chief Pharmacist and former Clinical Director with over 20 years NHS experience. Dipak has successfully led a number of large multidisciplinary, cost reduction, service redesign, quality assurance and modernisation projects for both Acute and PCT clients.

Dipak was previously the youngest Chief Pharmacist in London with systems science, health management (MBA) and a Masters in clinical research.


Steve Denton - Senior Imaging Consultant

Steve is a former Radiology & Pathology Business Manager and has been employed at a senior managerial level within the NHS and commercial medical sector for over 28 years. He has worked in General Management within a variety of large NHS University Teaching Hospitals and has gained valuable commercial medical sector sales & marketing experience at board level in the UK, Northern Europe and USA.

He has managed an operational budget of £44M with strategic and operational responsibility for 1500 staff and 21 clinical support services.

Steve has undertaken a wide variety of consultancy projects with NHS and private sector clients. Recent projects have includes service reviews of clinical support services, commissioning Radiology services, as the project lead for the installation of new capital equipment, reviewing the management of consumables and supplies, business case development to OBC and FBC levels, reviewing patient pathways and undertaking option appraisals for the purchase of capital equipment.

He has extensive project management experience (PRINCE 2) and has offered technical support to PFI / LIFT / and Diagnostic Treatment Centre (DTC) projects.

As well as a number of NHS managerial qualifications he has a MBA, is a PRINCE 2 practitioner and a certified Lead ISO auditor.


Usharanee Vellayappan - Senior Therapies Consultant

Usha is an experienced Clinician and Senior Service Manager. She has a successful and strong consultancy track record. Previously as a In-house Senior Manager she was involved in taking an entire NHS physiotherapy service of 30 clinical staff, their support staff and a multidisciplinary rehabilitation ward team through a period of financial turnaround/ cost improvement – this included service reorganisation, cost savings, change management, merger and relocation into a new PFI building.

Usha has worked around the world and this has enabled her to bring a wealth of experience to the NHS


Mark Campbell - Senior Pathology Consultant

Mark is a specialist within the field of Pathology and has gained a varied and wide amount of experience from working within the healthcare settings of the Military Hospitals, Private Hospitals and Private Laboratories, Clinical Trial Organisations and Pharmaceuticals and the NHS.

Mark originally qualified as a Biomedical Scientist and has since gained post graduate qualifications in general management and has developed a very successful career as a freelance management and change consultant within the Healthcare arena.

He specialises in delivering change and in delivering operational and financial turnaround of Pathology services.

Mark has delivered a fully comprehensive portfolio of consultancy projects with a very successful track record.


Jeanette Hucey - Senior Orthopaedic Lead

Jeanette is a former NHS senior manager who has extensive experience of working across a broad range of organisations and with individuals to deliver service review and design and change and performance management.

She has worked in a variety of senior management posts within the NHS both at national and local level, inter-organisationally and with partner organisations across local health communities. As an Associate Director she led the National Back Pain Collaborative and subsequently became an integral member of the Department of Health’s National Orthopaedic Project leading local teams in supporting challenged healthcare organisations to deliver sustainable service improvement.

Jeanette was a member of the National Orthopaedic Project Team (from 2003 to 2005) contributing to the design, development and delivery of a Tailored Support Programme to provide customised support to 40 health communities at greatest risk of under achievement of the 6 month wait target in orthopaedics.

She led the implementation programme for three Support Teams drawn from the Department of Health, NHS Modernisation Agency, British Orthopaedic Association and NHS supporting each ‘high risk’ health community to ensure that by March 2005 80% of orthopaedic patients waited no more that 6 months for their treatment, with 100% compliance by December 2005. These targets were successfully achieved by the respective client organisations.

Her current/recent consultancy work includes Service Reviews, Manager and Team Development, Executive Coaching, Service Redesign and Modernisation, Capacity Modelling, Patient Pathway Redesign and Care Stream Review and Peer Review Framework.
